I believe there were a lot of really good takeaways from this Joe Rogan podcast. Many of them were his personal experience combined with factual basises. So many of the takeaways that I have gathered are a straightforward factual belief from Joe and the girl he was interviewing.

One of the most interesting topics in his discussion I believe to be the most thought provoking was his take on momentum. As they discussed just being able to push yourself is a learned skill. This is certainly true from what I am able to relate from my own personal experiences. Humans in general rely heavily on our behavioral patterns therefore we rely on momentum. It is through our disciplined actions that we allow ourselves to feel our efforts carried forward via momentum. Perhaps the most important takeaway I had from this discussion was that momentum carries over whether you make the right or wrong decision. This should be a massive lightbulb to everyone out there because even if you’re making bad decisions you’re just sinking yourself even further. So out of fear motivation alone you should feel the need to push yourself to be physically active. It also hits home on the other side of the coin as well because it should motivate people to want to advance in other areas of their lives as well. This phenomenon occurs due to the neural pathways created by our habitual action.

Other important takeaways from this podcast was the takeaways that people would rather take a pill that could magically get them into the shape they desire rather than actually working towards it, robbing them of the accomplishment factor. It is this mannerism that people want to avoid any discomfort at all that creates bad momentum in one’s life. Adversely, once you are fit you look forward to a workout because you crave the endorphins that come with a good workout. It is the same principle of momentum that makes you feel worse when you don’t workout because you’re neglecting you body and the endorphins it craves.

Another massive advantage of physical activity is an increased executive function in the brain. It is in the region of the brain that a set of cognitive functions select and monitor our behaviors that facilitate the attainment of our chosen goals. Who wouldn’t want to reach their goals faster? It was also mentioned that meditation does a similar thing. Although not quite as physically active, it is still a vital physical function to improve our executive function.

As discussed, it is hard for people to start something new, let alone something that is comfortable and easy. While that may be true there are so many things you can do to make yourself better. Joe used a creative analogy in comparing your body to a car. You’re the mechanic that determines how good of a car you drive.

Other Takeaways Unmentioned:

People that are sedimentary are often eating junk food which creates an even worse

The point is to age better not to stop aging. Every day that you don’t give in you win the battle for that day.
